The Film Program CinemAmbulante – Stories of Integration

CinemAmbulante – Stories of Integration is an itinerant film program taking place in Calabria, Southern Italy.

Created in 2016, thanks to the MigrArti financing call of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the project aims to contribute to the enhancement and dissemination of the cultures of origin of immigrant communities permanently residing in Italy, with a view to the development of mutual knowledge, intercultural dialogue and social inclusion.

The idea of the program is to cover several locations around Calabria, especially involving peripheral areas with little accessibility to the cinema, and to collaborate with various local associations to screen independent works and build routes in the area.

The project also includes the creation of murals with the aim of upgrading peripheral neighbourhoods and buildings.

Over the years, we have taken the project to the following locations in Calabria: Amantea (CS), Badolato (CZ), Cleto (CS), Cosenza (CS), Crotone (KR), Lamezia Terme (CZ), Paola (CS), Reggio di Calabria (RC), Roccabernarda (KR), Vibo Valentia (VV).

We have screened films in castles, universities, churches, squares, amphitheatres, and lidos, organising a drive-in and transforming spaces with different functions into places of culture and community.

We were hosted by the University of Calabria, the Comics Museum in Cosenza, the Refugee Centre in Amantea, the State Archive in Vibo Valentia, the Svevo Castle in Cosenza, the middle school in Campora S. Giovanni, the Greek Amphitheatre in Roccabernarda.

We have collaborated with national entities such as Emergency, ARCI, the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, and local entities such as Associazione Culturale Cinepresi, Associazione Il Barrio, Circolo del Cinema Cinalci, Associazione Culturale La Piazza, Circolo del Cinema Zavattini, Culture in…Movimento.
