{"id":190,"date":"2017-08-28T17:40:54","date_gmt":"2017-08-28T17:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinemambulante.com\/kino-2\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T08:30:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T08:30:12","slug":"kino","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cinemambulante.com\/en\/kino\/","title":{"rendered":"Kino Guarimba Film Residency"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fiISRucaguM&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> KINO GUARIMBA <\/span>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An<\/span><b> international film training program<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the form of a <\/span><b>12 days artistic residency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Calabria, the wildest region of southern Italy, where a group of<strong> international creatives<\/strong> who don\u2019t know each other get together to write, shoot, edit, and screen short films.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal of the residency is not to create masterpieces, but to give the opportunity to the participants to <\/span>live a community experience where they can grow, learn and discover new cultures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The 12 days residency is divided in 3 parts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>1\u00b0 Inputs &amp; Networking:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playful-pedagogical activities, workshops on different aspects of film production focused on <\/span>socialization, and training activities<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where participants can get to know each other, present their ideas and form working groups.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>2\u00b0 Filming:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dedicated to <\/span>the making of short films<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: the work teams organize themselves to freely decide the structure and production times, in compliance with the rules of the residence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>3\u00b0 Screening:<\/strong> On the last evening we organize a public screening of all the short films made during the residency, and we invite both the participants and the locals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> WHEN <\/span>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>13th edition <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will take place in Amantea (CS) from the <\/span><b>10th to the 21st of June<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><b>14th edition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be from the <\/span><b>10th to the 21st of September<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid grid_id=&#8221;vc_gid:1747123273628-19f4c594-15d1-3&#8243; include=&#8221;2788,3314,3178&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> THE PROCESS <\/span>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pedagogy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u200b\u200bKino Guarimba\u2019s educational approach<\/strong> is based on the <\/span>non formal education <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">theories of <\/span><strong>Cooperative Learning and Montessori Education<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, based on<\/span> sharing<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span>independence<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and finding <\/span>creative solutions<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to problems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The training also involves <\/span>sharing living spaces<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span>equipment<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span>people<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they work with. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The role of our entire team is limited to <\/span>coordination and logistics<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and we will not replace your crew. We want to <\/span>empower participants<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by making them more independent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Production<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>You will work with complete autonomy and creative freedom<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to the <\/span>Montessori principles <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of empowerment through clear rules, freedom to choose, to make mistakes and to <\/span>develop their own path in a natural and spontaneous way<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We create a safe environment where you will challenge yourselves and collaborate with others in complete confidence. By accepting the deferment, the participant acknowledges that the payment becomes non refundable. Any subsequent withdrawal after a deferment will not be eligible for a refund.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> INSURANCE <\/span>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is your responsibility to seek cover for yourself and your belongings. These files will be supplied at the start of KINO.<\/span><\/p>\n<span class='highlight'> LEGAL <\/span>\n<p>Know our legal aspects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Filmmakers will have to ensure they secure rights<\/strong> for the use of music and the actor\u2019s image and voice. We recommend using copyright.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Free music.<\/strong> If the filmmaker decides to submit the film to festivals, it will be the filmmaker\u2019s responsibility to ensure they have not infringed any law pertaining to intellectual property.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By participating, <strong>directors take legal responsibility for their films.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By participating, filmmakers give rights to La Guarimba to use the finished film for promotional activities, on the understanding that this use will not damage or interfere with any festival strategy previously agreed with the filmmaker. If the film gets an award, it will go to the filmmaker.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the residency, a photographer and a videomaker from our team will take photos and videos of the activities. By participating in Kino Guarimba, participants consent to be captured in photos and\/or videos, to the reproduction and publication by any technical means of their images for journalistic and institutional-promotional use of the activities related to the event.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Individual portraits will also be taken<\/strong>. In case you do not want to be filmed, we advise you not to take part in the residency.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<span class='highlight'> RULES OF THE GAME <\/span>\n<p>We have some important rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All participants must go through a selection process that includes <strong>filling out a form<\/strong> and an interview with our team.<\/li>\n<li>The selected creatives must<strong> arrive<\/strong> in Amantea on <strong>day 10<\/strong> between<strong> 9:00<\/strong> and <strong>17:00<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The participants will be hosted by the organization in single or shared rooms for 12 nights, from the 10th to the 21st (including the 21st). The <strong>rooms<\/strong> must be <strong>vacated<\/strong> on <strong>day 22 by 9:30. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The apartments must be in good conditions before check out.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The participants undertake to<strong> stay in Amantea during all the days of the Residency<\/strong>. It is not possible to arrive after or leave before the days indicated.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>shorts<\/strong> must have at least one outdoor <strong>scene in Amantea.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It will <strong>not be possible<\/strong> to shoot <strong>outside<\/strong> the city <strong>of Amantea<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The maximum length of the short film is <strong>7 minutes<\/strong>. You are completely free to change the length of your short after the end of the residency.<\/li>\n<li>The final work must be <strong>delivered in person on day 21, from 9:00 to 12:00,<\/strong> following the technical instructions that will be provided.<\/li>\n<li>Office hours are sacred. Our team has the right to rest.<\/li>\n<li>We will use a<strong> WhatsApp group<\/strong> during the days of the residency to communicate with the participants. Registration to this group is mandatory.<\/li>\n<li>Guarimba is an adult community, not a summer camp. If you have a problem with someone, talk to us. If at that point you still can&#8217;t solve the problem, come to us.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t promise anyone anything before arriving in Amantea. Even if the script and the person seem great, wait until you meet everyone and get inspired by Calabria.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t monopolize the people and the technical material. We are here to help and will do our best to help you, but we are not your production help. Remember: locals want to participate. Invest more time in making connections, rather than making demands.<\/li>\n<li>Any form of insult, offensive language, or disrespect directed at the organization, its members, or its mission will not be tolerated. Violations of this rule may lead to immediate exclusion from current and future activities.<\/li>\n<li>Adapt and learn. This is a growth experience. Amantea has a lot to offer to your personal journey. You can tell your friends and colleagues about the project and invite them to apply. Take into consideration that the inhabitants of Amantea can also be part of your projects.<\/p>\n[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;What kind of equipment do you provide?&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We can lend lights, reflectors, sound recording kits, gears, and some laptops for editing. The rest is up to the participants to bring. Keep in mind that this experience values the idea and the learning process more than the equipment. We&#8217;re not a professional studio and we believe in the &#8220;doing more with less&#8221; philosophy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;I want to shoot a film, but I don&#8217;t own a camera. Can I participate anyway?&#8221;]<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Ideally, those who want to shoot their own film should bring their own camera, but you can also find a cinematographer to help you with your project and shoot it with theirs. In the past, some very good movies have been made with mobile phones.<\/span>[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Are you deciding the teams?&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Not at all. We help all the participants to meet each other, based on their needs and talents. But you will have the last word on who you want to work with. We will organize a speed dating, a casting and a pitching session, allowing you to find the perfect team for your project.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;How many projects will be made?&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It depends on the participants, in each edition we have different numbers. You will not be able to host external people in the apartment. There may be a possibility that we will only select you, and not your friend\/partner\/colleague.[\/vc_toggle]\n[vc_toggle title=&#8221;Can I choose who I share accommodation with?&#8221;]\n<p>No. Room assignments are handled by the team and communicated upon arrival.<br \/>\nPart of the residency experience is meeting and living with people you would not normally encounter, within a safe and carefully supervised environment.<\/p>\n[\/vc_toggle]\n[vc_toggle title=&#8221;Should we arrive with a finished script?&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">It&#8217;s totally up to you. Some people prefer to come with an idea, some with a ready script, and others prefer to get inspired by Amantea and its wonders. We don&#8217;t have a particular preference. We do recommend you to come with an open mind. Remember that everything can change.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;How many projects can I be part of?&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We don&#8217;t have limits on this aspect. You can direct your own film and then help other participants to make their own. You can even make more than one film, if you want.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_toggle]\n[vc_toggle title=&#8221;Does my film have to be a specific genre?&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Nope. All formats and all genres are accepted. We only have something to say about the length of the film. Considering the tight schedule and the fact that on the last day we will be screening all the films, we ask you to make films under 7 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Can the films participate in La Guarimba?&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">As you might know, we also organise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laguarimba.com\/\">La Guarimba International Film Festival<\/a> in August. This is a separated project from the residency.<br \/>\nIn the past, we had screened a selection of short films from Kino in a non-competitive program of the festival. Kino Films can&#8217;t participate in La Guarimba Film Festival competition.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;How much money will I spend for food?&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">If you know how to cook, you could go to the supermarket and with \u20ac50-70 be set for the entire residency.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">If you prefer to go outside every day, you should calculate at least \u20ac25 per day to be completely safe, depending on what you eat.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Consider that a breakfast (cappuccino &amp; croissant) cost around \u20ac2,50 and a meal can cost around \u20ac15-20.
