Meeting and inspiration<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>Welcome dinner, speed dating and a guided tour<\/strong> of Amantea, to get to know the other participants and the town.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Masterclasses<\/strong> on production, camera and lighting, on location sound and sound production, on editing and on distribution.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pitching and casting<\/strong>: if you have an idea, you pitch it; if you want to join a project, you find your crew. You decide who you work with.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Shooting<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Crews organise themselves freely and shoot in the streets, homes, beaches and bars of Amantea, often with locals in front of and behind the camera.<\/li>\n<li>You can direct your own film and work on other people&#8217;s projects: most participants take part in four, five or six projects and try roles they had never done before.<\/li>\n<li>Tutors are available for camera, sound and editing throughout the residency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Editing and screening<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>Mentoring sessions<\/strong> on your edit, to get an outside perspective and make your film stronger. For many participants it is their first time in Italy, and for almost all of them their first time in Calabria. What they remember most is the welcome: neighbours bringing food, shopkeepers lending their premises for a scene, strangers lending a hand even without sharing a language. In our latest survey, the town&#8217;s welcome received an average score of 4.7 out of 5.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amantea is a small town in the South of Italy with its own rhythm, and it&#8217;s good to know that before you come: many shops close in the early afternoon, there are few caf\u00e9s with WiFi to work from, pharmacies and ATMs are not everywhere, and getting here by public transport takes some planning. You&#8217;ll work with complete autonomy and creative freedom, within a few clear rules, with the freedom to choose, to make mistakes and to find your own path.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>You make the films.<\/strong> Our team&#8217;s role is limited to coordination and logistics: we don&#8217;t take over the production or organisation of the shoots. We want it to be open both to people with plenty of resources and to people with very few, from wealthy countries and from countries where making films is much harder. Rooms must be vacated on <strong>day 22<\/strong> by 9:30 AM.<\/li>\n<li>Participants commit to staying in Amantea for the entire residency. It is not possible to arrive later or leave earlier.<\/li>\n<li>Every short film must include at least one outdoor scene shot in Amantea.<\/li>\n<li>Filming outside Amantea is not permitted.<\/li>\n<li>The maximum length of the short film is 6 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>The final work must be delivered in person on day 21, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, following the technical instructions provided.<\/li>\n<li>Office hours are sacred. Our team has the right to rest too.<\/li>\n<li>During the residency we communicate through a WhatsApp group, which is mandatory to join.<\/li>\n<li>La Guarimba is a community of adults, not a summer camp. If you have an issue with someone, talk to them. If you still can&#8217;t resolve it, come to us.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t promise anything to anyone before arriving in Amantea. Even if the script and the person seem great, wait to meet everyone and let yourself be inspired by Calabria.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t monopolise people or equipment. We&#8217;re here to help and will do our best to support you, but we&#8217;re not your production assistants. Remember: local people want to take part too. Invest more time in building connections than in making requests.<\/li>\n<li>Any form of insult, offensive language or lack of respect towards the organisation, its members or its mission will not be tolerated and may result in immediate exclusion from current and future activities.<\/li>\n<li>Adapt and learn. This is a growth experience. Don&#8217;t focus on what you don&#8217;t like about the local people: try instead to understand what you can learn from their culture and way of life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> CREDITS <\/span>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All films must include the following text for 5 seconds, either at the beginning or at the end:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Conceived, shot, and edited during<br \/>\nKino Guarimba 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Each film must also include the logos of the organisation and of all partners and sponsors. All required files will be provided at the beginning of the residency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> REFUND POLICY <\/span>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If a participant withdraws after having paid the participation fee, the organisation can provide a refund of 50% of the amount paid only if the withdrawal is communicated at least 45 days before the start of the residency and is due to a valid reason.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the organisation agrees to defer a participant&#8217;s participation to a future edition, the amount already paid will be transferred to the new edition. By accepting the deferral, the participant acknowledges that the payment becomes non-refundable. Any subsequent withdrawal after a deferral will not be eligible for a refund.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> INSURANCE <\/span>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The organisation accepts no responsibility for any injury, damage, loss or theft affecting participants or their personal belongings before, during or after Kino Guarimba, regardless of the circumstances, including when participants have followed the organisation&#8217;s instructions and guidelines.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Participants are responsible for their own personal belongings and are advised to arrange appropriate personal and travel insurance for the duration of their stay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> LEGAL ASPECTS <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Filmmakers must ensure that they have obtained all necessary rights and permissions for the music, script and use of the actors&#8217; images in the short film. We particularly recommend using copyright-free or properly licensed music: if you later wish to submit your film to festivals, everything needs to be cleared.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">By participating, the filmmaker assumes full responsibility for the final work.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Participants grant the organisers the right to use the works exclusively for cultural purposes and only in ways that do not interfere with or negatively affect the short film&#8217;s festival career.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class='highlight'> PERSONAL DATA PROCESSING <\/span>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pursuant to Italian Legislative Decree 196\/2003, the data requested in the application form will be used exclusively for the purposes set out in this call, and will be processed with or without the aid of IT tools, in full compliance with the above regulations and confidentiality obligations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the residency, a photographer and a videomaker from our team will take photos and videos of the activities. By taking part in Kino Guarimba, participants consent to being photographed and\/or filmed, and to the reproduction and publication, by any technical means, of their images for journalistic and institutional-promotional purposes related to the event&#8217;s activities. Individual portraits will also be taken. You can tell your friends and colleagues about the project and invite them to apply. Keep in mind that Amantea locals can also be part of your projects.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;What kind of equipment will we be given?&#8221;]We have lights, reflectors, sound kits, tripods and computers for editing. Participants need to bring the rest. Remember that this experience values ideas and process more than equipment: we are not a production studio, and we believe in the philosophy of &#8220;doing a lot with little&#8221;.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;I&#8217;d like to make a film but I don&#8217;t have a camera. Can I still take part?&#8221;]Ideally, anyone who wants to shoot their own film should bring their own camera, but you can also find a cinematographer to help you and shoot with theirs. Some great films have been made with mobile phones in the past.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Will you decide the crews?&#8221;]No. We&#8217;ll help you form crews based on experience, needs and equipment, but you decide who you want to work with. We organise a speed dating session, a casting and a pitching session so everyone can introduce themselves and find the right team.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;How many projects will be made?&#8221;]It depends on the participants: every edition is different. Since 2018, more than 400 short films have been made at Kino. If you&#8217;re curious, you can read the reports from past editions on our website.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;How many projects can I take part in?&#8221;]There&#8217;s no limit. You can shoot your own project and help other directors with theirs, or shoot more than one film. Most participants take part in four, five or six projects. Just remember you only have 12 days: managing your time well matters, including time to rest.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Do I need to arrive with a finished script?&#8221;]That&#8217;s up to you. Some people arrive with a draft, others with a finished script, and others prefer to be inspired by Amantea. Any approach works for us: we just recommend coming with an open mind, knowing that everything can change.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Does my film need to be a specific genre?&#8221;]No. All formats and genres are welcome. The only limit is the maximum length of 7 minutes, so that everyone can screen their film for an audience on the final evening.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Can I bring a friend, partner or colleague?&#8221;]Anyone who wants to take part must go through the selection process. You can&#8217;t host outside guests in the apartments. If you know other interested people, share this page with them.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Can I apply together with my partner?&#8221;]The whole selection process, including the interview, is individual. It&#8217;s possible that only one of you will be selected.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Can I choose who I share accommodation with?&#8221;]No. Room assignments are managed by the organisation and communicated on arrival. Part of the residency experience is meeting and living with people you wouldn&#8217;t normally meet, in a safe and carefully supervised environment.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Can our films take part in La Guarimba?&#8221;]In August we also organise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laguarimba.com\/\">La Guarimba International Film Festival<\/a>, a separate project from the residency. In some years we&#8217;ve screened an out-of-competition selection of shorts made at Kino, but as a rule, films produced at Kino cannot take part in the festival&#8217;s official competition.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;How much will I spend during the residency?&#8221;]According to our latest survey, most participants spend between \u20ac200 and \u20ac300 in total, excluding travel, of which around \u20ac150-250 on food. For many, Amantea is cheaper than where they come from. To give you an idea: breakfast with a croissant and cappuccino costs around \u20ac2.50, a pizza around \u20ac7 and a restaurant meal \u20ac15-20. If you cook at home, you&#8217;ll spend much less.[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;What should I know about Amantea before I come?&#8221;]Amantea is a small town in the South of Italy with its own rhythm. Many shops and supermarkets close in the early afternoon, and some restaurants are closed on Mondays. There are few caf\u00e9s with WiFi to work from, and ATMs, pharmacies and currency exchange offices are limited: bring some cash with you. Vegetarian and gluten-free options exist but are limited.
