Amantea<\/strong> is located in the Tyrrhenian<\/strong> coast of Calabria<\/strong>, a beautiful and not so well-known region in southern Italy<\/strong>. The town hosts 14000<\/strong> inhabitants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The history<\/strong> of Calabria is very ancient<\/strong> and complex: nowadays it is a melting<\/strong> pot of cultures<\/strong> from Ancient Greek<\/strong> to Modern Italian<\/strong>, including Arb\u00ebr\u00ebsh\u00eb<\/strong>, Albanese<\/strong>, African<\/strong> and Latin American<\/strong> cultures, as the result of many dominations and migrations in the past. Amantea is just one of many examples of this cultural commingling: the ancient castle<\/strong> belongs to the Byzantine<\/strong> period while churches from different ages have been built through all the town.<\/p>\n

Compared to the rest of Italy, Calabria<\/strong> is a poor region with a high rate of unemployment and serious social troubles. Young people are pushed to go abroad in order to find jobs and opportunities, leaving the cities and their families in a complex generational situation.<\/p>\n

On the other side, ancient and charming traditions are still rooted in Calabria which makes every location unique and different. Here you will find an impressive and heterogeneous<\/strong> plethora of dialects<\/strong>, folk music<\/strong> and dances<\/strong>, catholic and pagan rituals, recipes, professions and geographical scenarios.
